60 Seconds - With the Concierge

In the first of a new series of interviews for Mount Anvil, David Fosu, Head Concierge at The Filaments talks to us about the role of a concierge and what makes The Filaments a great place to live.

Q: Tell us who you are and what you do?

I am David Fosu and I am Head Concierge at The Filaments.

Essentially, I am responsible for ensuring that all the residents are satisfied and that the building is always in tip-top shape and secure.

Q: We’ve all heard the word ‘concierge’ but what actually is it?

Traditionally a concierge was someone who just took care of the building and checked people who were entering and leaving. But this has now evolved into much more of a customer services role.

Aside from keeping keys and maintaining security, I am also on hand to answer questions residents might have about the development and to offer advice on the local area.

Q: What makes a great concierge?

I think a concierge must be outgoing and a good communicator. This role is also about trust and it’s important residents feel comfortable with their concierge.

Local knowledge is also very important. Residents always ask for my recommendations on places to eat and services they can use. So I am always on the lookout for something new that they will enjoy - a pub, a theatre or even a jogging route.

Q: What’s great about being concierge at The Filaments?

Wow. What’s there not to love about The Filaments?

I think the mix of people who live here really give it a great character. The people are so friendly and really eager to know one another. There’s a real community feel.  I am privileged to be part of that.

And Wandsworth is a great place to live. The council has some really ambitious plans for the future. This borough was recently voted as one of the best places to live in London and I am very proud to work here.

Q: How do you remember the names of everyone?

Ha-ha-ha! Well I try to, but most importantly I keep a smiling face so they don’t forget my name.

Q: With more bright new apartments launching next week, and penthouses coming soon, are things busy at the moment?

The apartments at The Filaments are beautiful and the Copperlight Penthouses, in particular, are a real work of art. There is a lot of work going on at the moment and the attention to detail across the whole of The Filaments is really impressive.

With people moving in daily and more apartments about to be released for sale, there’s a real buzz about the place.

Q: When you’re not at The Filaments, what do you like to get up to in your spare time?

I am a movie lover and I really enjoy reviewing them. So that is what I usually do. The reviews might even feature in my residents’ newsletter.

Q: And lastly, what are you most looking forward to in 2014?

I think 2014 is going to be a very exciting year. I am really looking forward to next week’s launch of new apartments. Then, of course, there is the newsletter from the concierge desk to look out for! But most importantly I am really looking forward to forming some strong relationships with residents as we all discover Wandsworth and The Filaments together.

More bright new apartments at The Filaments are launching on Thursday 23rd January.
