Planet Mark Business Certification to be awarded to Mount Anvil

Having already been the UK’s first residential developer to achieve Planet Mark’s Development Certification, London based developer Mount Anvil is now set to achieve Planet Mark’s Business Certification.

Planet Mark works with businesses across the world to encourage climate action and build an empowered community focussed on making sure the planet is fit for future generations.  By working with Planet Mark to achieve its Business Certification, Mount Anvil will be measuring their carbon emissions, reporting them, and reducing all associated with its business operations, taking a significant step on lessening its impact on the planet and society, and creating a benchmark within the industry for others to follow.

Steve Malkin, Founder and CEO of Planet Mark, commented: “We’re delighted Mount Anvil has made the commitment to measure, report and reduce the carbon emissions associated with its business operations. As a developer focused on central London, the opportunity for Mount Anvil to deliver a positive legacy and lead from the front in the industry is enormous. Its culture and stakeholder engagement marries perfectly with Planet Mark’s three-step process to certification and the genuine passion for sustainability, showcased from the board right through to all of its employees, will ensure Mount Anvil continues to deliver a legacy of positive change for many years to come.”

Mike Valmas, Head of Preconstruction, Energy and Sustainability for Mount Anvil said: “Having undertaken Planet Mark’s Development Certification process last year, we saw the huge benefit in deep diving into our carbon footprint at a scheme level. Understanding our impact on the planet will play a huge role in how we lessen it, which is why we’re eager to further our commitment to climate action by working with Planet Mark to achieve their Business Certification. We have a huge opportunity to pursue better, differently, with their help.”

Mount Anvil’s environmental commitments extend well beyond traditional design and construction measures.  Its work with Planet Mark includes commitments to protect an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation.  With the help of Planet Mark and the Eden Project, Mount Anvil will also be expanding its schools programme which focusses on connections between people and the living world, exploring how we can all work together to build a better future.

Marcus Bate, Partnerships and Communities Director at Mount Anvil added: “Our collaboration with Planet Mark is a brilliant example of what we look for in our partnerships.  It’s different, ambitious, environmentally responsible and socially beneficial for communities and residents across London.  The process of achieving the Business Certification has already helped us meaningfully improve our operational performance.  Our collective focus on sustainability is now greater than ever before, and we’ve significantly improved the clarity of all our key performance indicators.”

Mount Anvil has worked in partnership in London for the last 30 years, and is on a mission to pursue better, differently. Earlier this year the developer instructed JLL as its 2030 sustainability strategy advisors and also struck up new partnerships with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The London Wildlife Trust and cycling charity, Sustrans to support its sustainability and social value initiatives.
