The Silk District raises the bar for considerate construction (again)
Following an outstanding first site inspection from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) last year, The Silk District in Whitechapel recently underwent its second inspection. Once again, this exceptional site in the heart of E1 has knocked it out of the park, raising the bar for the whole construction industry. Read more below.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is a voluntary initiative that aims to improve the image of the construction industry nationwide. Sites registered with the CCS agree to adhere to the scheme’s Code of Considerate Practice, a set of values and benchmarks designed to encourage best practice.
Sites are monitored and visited by CCS inspectors throughout construction to ensure that developers are upholding the standards they’ve agreed to.
Last year we reported that The Silk District had received an exceptionally high score – 46/50 – from its first site assessment. The scheme received the highest possible marks across the Considerate Constructors Scheme’s five key codes of considerate practice – the first site ever to do so in 22 years of the CCS.
The Silk District had its second site inspection at the end of 2019, and we are thrilled to announce that the site again received a score of 46/50.
The summary for the second inspection praised Mount Anvil’s “clear vision and commitment to initiating and maintaining such high standards”, and celebrated the scheme’s community initiatives, unique training opportunities, and efforts to ensure the wellbeing of its workforce.
The inspector summarised that The Silk District’s site remains “truly exceptional”, and “certainly amongst the very best currently in London”.
We’re not into patting ourselves on the back too much, but we couldn’t be prouder of the Silk District team. Once again, they scored the highest possible marks across categories including the site’s appearance, the safety of its workforce, respect for its neighbours and the local community, and efforts to protect and enhance the environment they’re working in.
It’s a great result, and one that again sets new standards for the construction industry – but we’re moving forward on site aware that this is the start line, not the finish line. We’ll continue to maintain our standards, innovate, and keep raising the bar.
