Plumbing, plastering & progress: An update from The Silk District
What you need to know now: a perfect inspection score for The Silk District, progress from site, Superbloom and world-class music in East London.
Construction update
It’s all hands on deck here in Whitechapel as Phase 2 of The Silk District continues to take shape – we recently calculated that we’ve already laid 113,480 bricks for the new building!
That’s thanks to the hard work of our site team.
We currently have a 19-person Mount Anvil team on site, as well as 220 operatives including our concrete frame contractor, unitised cladding contractor, dryliners (partition wall builders), plumbers and electricians. We are also currently recruiting apprentice plumbers, electricians and dryliners from the local community.
As well as routine ongoing inspections from the National Home Building Council (NHBC) and our façade consultant, we recently welcomed another Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) inspector to site.
The CCS is a voluntary scheme that oversees our work on the environment, our workforce, Health & Safety, the site’s appearance and the communities we work in. The Silk District once again wowed the inspector, who awarded the site a perfect score of 45/45.
Internal work at The Bouchon, The Silk District’s flagship tower, is running to schedule. External work on the concrete frame is currently around one week behind due to recent strong winds hindering the tower crane. We will make this time back up next year when the weather improves.
Our plasterers are currently working on level 1 in the new Phase 2 building – after plastering we’ll be installing kitchens and internal doors. Our plumbers, electricians and dryliners are currently working up to level 3.
Externally the buildings concrete frame is reaching new heights, and is already constructed to level 17. The building’s façade is not far behind, currently up to level 9 with a target of installing a floor every 2 weeks.

Earlier this year we launched Chelsea Botanica, an exclusive collection of riverside homes in SW6. Delivered in a repeat partnership with Peabody, Chelsea Botanica includes landscaped gardens designed with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, and the UK’s first residential Peloton fitness hub.
Thanks to a first week of sales back in June that saw over 80% of the schemes new homes reserved, Chelsea Botanica was the fastest selling scheme of the year.

Celebrating Makers & Mentors second birthday
Last week we spent a brilliant evening celebrating the second birthday of Makers & Mentors. This unique programme, run by Mount Anvil and supported by the Mayor of London, seeks to inspire and support a more diverse construction industry by connecting people with mentoring opportunities, apprenticeships, work experience and curriculum support.
This celebratory event was hosted with BAME in Property. Attendees heard success stories from mentors and mentees, enjoyed networking (and cake!) and left with this key take away from Mount Anvil MD Darragh Hurley – “Problems aren’t solved from the consciousness that created them – we need cognitive diversity to thrive”. Here’s to another year of Makers & Mentors!
