Crossrail, concrete, continuing to impress: An update from The Verdean

What you need to know now: The Verdean raises the bar, progress from site, a big summer for local events and more.

The Verdean continues to impress inspectors

As reported in our last update, The Verdean enjoyed a hugely successful second inspection from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) earlier this year.

The CCS inspector awarded the site a perfect score of 45/45, taking into account factors including  our work on sustainability, our workforce, Health & Safety, the site’s appearance and our relationship with the community we’re working in.

We have also been welcoming the National House Building Council (NHBC) to site for regular inspections every three weeks.

NHBC are the UK’s best-known provider of warranty and insurance for new homes, and a leading advocate for build quality in the UK construction industry.

We will continue to welcome both CCS and NHBC inspectors to site until work at The Verdean is complete.

Construction update

It’s an exciting time here in Acton, with the much-anticipated Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) now open and serving the area, and The Verdean quickly taking shape.

Work on site continues to run to schedule. We have a huge site team working across The Verdean – almost 200 people from a wide range of trades – and we’re handling a huge amount of raw material too. We’ve already poured almost 10,000m3 of concrete on site, this equates to enough concrete to fill 4 Olympic size swimming pools, and used 210 lorries full of concrete over three days just for part of the foundations for The Oak.

The Verdean’s flagship 24-storey tower is still growing fast. Scaffolding will be erected around the building in the coming weeks, which will then be wrapped in monoflex sheeting to keep our people and the building safe from the weather, and reduce dust and other inconveniences for local residents.

Blocks A and G, buildings that will be home to the development’s affordable housing provided by Catalyst, are also progressing well.

Block G’s concrete and steel frames are fully complete, and brickwork is in place up to level three in some areas. Internal walls are being constructed by our dryliners up to level three, and pipework for soil and rainwater is complete, with the installation of wiring and internal pipework starting in the next two weeks.

Block A is close behind, with its concrete frame under construction, its roof now fully cast, and its steel frame up to level seven. Window installation is underway, and the dryliners are hard at work here too, with internal party walls complete up to level four and bathroom installations imminent.
